Real Beauties

Hello lovelies! Sorry about my lack of posts over the past month of so. Depressing, I know. But I'm back. Maybe not with an outfit post or anything spectacular, but I'm back nonetheless. Yay? Yay.

I recently came across the June 2011 of Italian Vogue titled "Real Beauties". OH MY GOD! I love it so very much. The women on the cover are REAL women. Yes, they are models, but their bodies are REAL. Not to mention beautiful. I find these women to be extraordinary. The images may be a tiny bit racy, since they are either wearing lingerie or...nothing, but I would much rather see one of these women than say...Lady Gaga.

Being a curvy girl, seeing anorexic-bodied models in magazines really upsets me. Those women should not be plastered all over magazine spreads. They really just make everyone feel bad. The average sized American woman wears a size 14, not a size 2 like the models in these magazines. That's why I love seeing these "Plus Size" models gracing the covers of magazines. Especially Vogue! Vogue IS style, and these women are the face of it.

I do have two complaints, however. I don't understand why this issue was a "special" issue, and I don't understand why this was the Italian Vogue. Average size women (I won't call them plus size, because obviously they are normal sized) should be on the covers of magazines all the time, not just on special occasions. I also think that if Italian Vogue can realize that these are real women and will put them on their cover, why can't the American version? Better yet, why can't every magazine put them on their covers?

What are your opinions on this cover? Did you like it? Did you hate it? I'd love to know what you thought of it.

I wholeheartedly agree, these women are absolutely gorgeous and their curves are so beautiful! It does annoy me sometimes, though, that magazines can't ever seem to hit a middle ground between beautfiully curvy women like this or unnaturally skinny women. Can't ALL shapes and sizes get a look-in?? Surely they can find beautiful models with a whole range of body-types so women everywhere can feel they've been represented at one point or another, rather than purposefully trying to be "shocking" by only putting two extreme opposite body-types at any one time. I feel like curvy women are exploited a bit in this way, as though featuring them once or twice a year on the cover of a magazine is supposed to appease the masses and make the editors appear forward-thinking. It really frustrates me.

Phew, okay, rant over! Haha, this issue gets to me a little. Great post though lovely - great for discussion x

These women are so gorgeous but I agree with you, why did this have to be dubbed a special issue. Women who represent us, should they not be in the magazines wearing the clothes they want us to buy??
