Birdcage Bliss

Urgh. Sorry there hasn't been a new post in the past few days. Things have been a bit hectic recently with school and MY BIRTHDAY!!!;) I also havent been feeling very inspired. Until today that is.
I couldn't find anything to write about for the past few days, but today I found the perfect thing. The thing that I go to every single day. My birdcage. My birdcage isn't just an ordinary birdcage. It holds all of my jewelry and hair pieces. It's pretty much accessory city on my wall.
I got my birdcage from Urban Outfitters last Christmas. Since then, I've filled it, almost completely, with accessories that I've collected over time. Well, enough of this rambling. Here it is!

Her Sweet Autumn What?

Her Sweet Autumn Misery is a band based out of Shreveport, Louisiana. The band started as the side project from Landon Miller and Ben Densmore's heavier band, "I AM ISRAEL". The first album from the band "The Fisherman And The Sea" was released in 2008. As the band grew, they were able to gain the beautiful vocals of Chelsea Norman. The band has released two other albums since '08, "Fire By Night, Smoke By Morning" in '09, and their latest, "Embers" in '10.
Don't let the name of this band fool you. While their name might sound very down and depressing, their music and lyrics are anything but. While most of the lyrics are personal inside stories, they are still extremely fun to sing along to. My personal favorite is from their song Cheerleaders, "We'll speak of how you cut your wrists and don't believe in God, and I'll tell you that I love you from the bottom of my heart, because you have blood and I have blood, and that's enough." All in all, instrumental, lyric, and vocals wise, I rate this band an A+.

Easy Schmeasy

Recently, I've been getting into sewing. Im not very good at it yet, but practice makes perfect right? Well, as I was snooping around www.teenvogue.com's website I found a pretty cool and easy to make dress. I hope to one day design my own, but I'll start off with this cute easy to make shirt dress by Vena Carta.

Materials:
1 Plain T-Shirt
3 Yards of Fabric
Needle and Thread
Scissors
Tape Measure/Ruler
Felt Letters *optional

Cut the fabric to make the skirt of the dress. For width, measure your waist and multiply that number by three. Next, cut the desired length.

Using the needle and thread, make a running stitch across the top of the fabric, with each stitch about one-quarter inch in length. When finished, pull the stitch to shirr the skirt.

Trim the bottom of the T-shirt so that it hits your natural waist. Sew the skirt's waist to the T-shirt's bottom. Stick the letters across the front of the shirt to spell out your message.

A Forest Bird Never Wants A Cage

Over the past year or so, birds have been the apple of my eye. I love them. I must say that I envy the little creatures. I mean, what other animal can fly 200+ miles a day, and have a pretty sing song voice? None that I am aware of.

Birds add a very "vintage" feel to an outfit. Especially doves and brass toned birds. I own many pieces with birds, including my bird branch ring and my bird cage necklace.

Since it is Autumn, I threw on this Urban Outfitters sweater and I ♥ Ronson cotton dress. I topped it off with a brown circle belt(GAP) and these grey wedges(Old Navy).

Goodwill Hunting

No, not the Matt Damon movie, the store! Some turn their noses, others find it to be sort of like their very own treasure chest. I am of the latter. While I've been to my share of bad Goodwills, I've been to a few really good ones too. No matter if it's good or bad, big or small, I can always find something hidden beneath its racks and shelves that catches my eye.
The best thing about goodwill? The prices! Everything in the store, clothes and accessory wise, is under ten dollars. I'm sort of a tight wad with my money, so Goodwill is a great place for me. It's a great place for everyone. You can always find something, whether it be old or new, there is something in store for all people. Another great thing about this thrifty store is it's uniqueness. Sure, you might have to do a little digging, but I promise you that it will be worth it when you reveal one of its great little treasures.
With this said, I must say that the saying is true afterall. One man's trash is another man's treasure. :)

White Hinterland

During the Project Runway season finale last thursday night, I discovered my new favorite band. All thanks to Gretchen Jones and her fabulous collection's walk down the runway. During this, the song that was played was "Icarus" by White Hinterland. I fell into deep love with it as soon as I heard it. I researched this indie pop/expirimental band a little over the past few days and this is what I have to offer you about this great band:

White Hinterland is the stage name for Portland,OR based singer/songwriter/pianist Casey Dienel. Her first album, Wind-Up Canary, deputed in March of 2006 courtesy of Hush Records. Over time, White Hinterland has made three other albums, including most recent "Kairos", in which she has collaborated with Shawn Creeden and is currently touring the US and Europe. The duo is now working with the indie label Dead Oceans. You can catch WH's new single, "Icarus" on Revlon's Just Bitten Lip Stain commercial.

All The Pretty, Shiny Things Rings

Over the past few months I've developed quite an addiction. An addiction to rings. I love them all. Big, small, glittery, tarnished, all of them. Every single one. I don't find my hands to be a great physical characteristic of mine, being as they are slightly short and stubby, rings help embellish them, if you will. Rings easily enhance ANY outfit. They're very easy and don't get in the way like bulky necklaces or clanky bracelets.
My favorite rings are the big, flashy kind. Anything with birds or creepy crawlers are an adoration of mine as well. A few of my favorites include my bird branch ring, my duck ring, and my ever so noticable pearl flower ring.
